Face Washing for Dumb Blondes

Yellowhair I have always wondered why even the best skin care regimens only seem to work for me for a limited time, then my cheeks go back to feeling like 120 grit sandpaper, my nose begins to peel, and eventually, I break out.

Well, a couple of days ago Jack shared her friend Karri's admonishment that one should spend at least two minutes rub-a-dubbing cleanser into one's skin (her hint for how long that is was to sing the ABC song twice through). I tried this, and whaddya know, it works. I think what has happened to me is that when I first get a new product, I'm infatuated and want to spend lots of time loving it up. Within weeks, however, I get bored, and my skincare gestures dwindle to a few desultory swipes and a cursory rinse. So I may not need new products at all, just a bit more elan.

The pic here is one Jack took yesterday of my new blonder hair (it's in a French twist in the back). I had wanted a cool, Eva Marie Saint platinum, while this is a bit yellow, so it's a work in progress, and I'm going to keep tinkering with the color. I saw a shockingly different forest green dye at the beauty supply store that is calling me, but everyone I know is horrified at the idea, so I'm refraining. The painting behind me is by Richard White.

love the look...and the background

Hair is great. Blonder, probably even greater.
As for the green: I have gray coming in, which I recently considered topping with a rinse-out shell-pink, to which my 18-year-old, with not some small horror, said "Mom, mom, don't be that mom!" When I repeated the story to my husband, thinking it funny, he looked at me with both alarm and amazement that I would consider such a thing, and said, "Don't do it."
And these are the people who love me the most.
I bought a pink wig instead.

I've recently covered to the 'cleanse twice' face washing idea, and it makes a great difference. I'm using super-mild cleanser, and my skin feels lovely afterwards.

Jacq,

Same for me - made a huge difference.

A good reminder that even the best products have to be used properly.

You'd think my interest in taking good care of myself would hold, but I too get bored and have to relearn that skin care regimen as if I never knew it to begin with.

I love your hair -- it's very sixties glam looking to me. Didn't know this about washing your face for that long and now must try. Wish I could find a moisturizer that keeps working but maybe it's that I need to wash my face longer!

So I've been singing the ABCs to myself, twice, as I wash, and it occurs to me that this works wonders because you're stimulating your face, giving it some nice bloodflow along with the sloughing.
Or was this already obvious to everyone? If so, never mind.
