L'Oreal Volume Shocking Waterproof Mascara

Guest contributor Helena Handbasket continues her series: The Mascara Trials of Helena Handbasket...

L'Oreal Volume Shocking Waterproof

BRUSH--Two sides: a primer with a typical spiral brush, and a comb with two sets of bristles, similar to Lash Stylist.

FORMULA--Very wet, brush needs to be wiped down.

APPLICATION--Tricky. Separate eyelash comb is necessary to prevent clumping, both after primer and mascara steps.

LOOK--Drag-queen dramatic.

WEAR--Dear God, this stuff does not come off at all. Great for swimmers or extreme heat, but will definitely require serious effort to remove.

PACKAGING--Nifty but bulky football-shaped container with the brushes at each corner.

Comments

For what it's worth: I HATED this mascara and considered it a total waste of money. Just too, too much for me. (Some people like that, though.)

I agree! THat's why I've stopped using this mascara because I lose too many lashes trying to remove it. My current love is dejavu fibrewig mascara. Try it, you might love it too!

Um, the mascara looks fine, but WTF is up with her eyebrow?!!?

I wondered the same thing! (This is not a picture of our Helena, but someone on Flickr who photographed themselves wearing the mascara. She does have AMAZINGly thick lashes on the bottom!)

i have used this before too. After the first time of trying to take it off, i threw it away. My two favs are (steal) maybelline unstoppable, it gives you that full, long, perfect look, about 6-8$$... and the (splurge) Lancome' Hypnose, omg this mascara is a genius! its absolutely amazing all around, the sexiest lashes ever... it runs about $$25-30 but WORTH IT!!!

Grayburn, I'm going to try the Fiberwig as soon as I can find some (hard to get in Australia where I am) and maybe after I've used up one of the dozen or so open mascara tubes in my bathroom (wink). I'm such a lash ho...

Stay tuned for more mascara reviews!

I have used this mascara before and I have lost many lashes when removing the product. If I have to buy drugstore mascara then I prefer L'Oreal's Voluminous Mascara. It has a great brush and I have never had it clump my lashes. Though my preference for mascara is Diorshow Blackout layered with Imju Fiberwig.

Just tried the new Clinique Mascara Lash Power, which is supposed to stay on for 24 hours, unless removed by warm water. I really like it, and I'm not usually a fan of waterproof mascaras. I have short, thin lashes, and it really works well for me. I do have to wipe some off of the brush sometimes to avoid getting too much on at a time, but otherwise, I think it's great!
