There is a 2.5 year old bottle of conditioner in my shower

What's the oldest product still in rotation at your vanity or in your shower?

A tin of "Vermont's Original Bag Balm". Not the best of smells, but incredible for curing chapped lips or icky winter heels overnight. I think I "borrowed" it from my mom's medicine cabinet in... 2002, making it at least 6 years old. And still awesome.

I have more than enough makeup to last a lifetime, but I didn't really buy much of it until about a year ago. So, the oldest thing I probably have is...

A lot of bubble bath.

I don't even remember when I got it, but the master bath doesn't have a bath tub and the tub in the other bathroom is too shallow for my tastes anyway. So, I never take baths, just showers, and it never gets used.

Chanel Precision Mattifying Fluid. I bought it back in Spring 2001 (isn't that weird that i can remember when i got every product ever?!!)It doesn't really work for me as it kind of smells alcoholic and makes my skin blotchy when i put it on and it dries up in a patchy white residue that's kind of crispy and tight. My husband calls it "the money shot effect" (nice!) But I could never bring myself to throw it away as it cost me something silly like £30+ and the bottle is so sleek.

Great blog by the way. :-)

A 6 year-old bottle of Oil of Olay nail polish that cannot be replaced anymore! The shade is called electric red and it is the best shade of red no doubt! Luckily, the lacquer still works and I only use it on special occasions!

So sad, I know.

Oh Lucy - me too! Bag Balm is the best, it's been a family secret back to my great-grandmother. I love the fact that it's for cows, and a tub seriously lasts forever.

None ;-) I did a big clean out yesterday evening. I started with the herb and spice cupboard in the kitchen (fenugreek use by date 03/2001) and then moved to the bathroom shelf where I discovered a five year old bottle of Dior face emulsion).

  • What do you get when you throw a true beauty obsessive in Europe together with a veteran beauty journalist in LA? Not much room on the bathroom shelves, that's for sure. Make-up, hair products, skincare, perfume, salons, spas, luxury hotels with toiletries and treatments that make us never want to go home - if we've left anything out, you can pry our mirrors from our cold, dead, perfectly manicured hands.
