Family resemblance

  Weekend at my parents' place
  Originally uploaded by dynamist.

As I age, I am stunned by how much more clear my resemblance to my younger brother becomes to me. People always told me we looked alike, and I could never see it. Now, I look at my photos and can hardly glimpse myself for staring at his face.

Still, at least I am not the only one forever cursed by a permanent double chin, bequeathed upon us by our estranged mother. That's revenge if I've ever seen it.

Who do you look like in your family?

Comments

My brother looks like my mum, and I look like my dad - although he wears his face as an unholy mash of Harold Bishop vs Ronnie Barker. I've not really followed him down that road yet...

Kitty was born looking like an even mix of me and Simon, but now she's reached double figures (i.e. 10 weeks - how did that happen?), she's starting to look more like me. She definitely has my eyes. I'm already apologising to her for the myopia and`astigmatism in her future, although she will have the longest, darkest eyelashes in the world as compensation...

I have the mannerisms and energy of my mother, and thus people swear we look identical. We don't; I think I look more like my dad, though he and I are the only ones who see this. My brother looks nearly identical to my dad, something my father sees not at all, to the point where he's questioned (facetiously) whether my brother is his son. Trust me; they are identical. The perception of whom we do and do not look like can be, I think, completely colored by how well we are getting along with the people in question.

I look a LOT like my mother, especially with short hair (as my brother took great delight in pointing out to me), but do bear a strong resemblance to my father as well. As for how we all get along...

Oh Jackie I can totally see that you and your dad are related.
As for me, I look like more like my dad..and so does my half-sister. It's quite a gene pool, I can assure you.
I have my mom's face shape though, and I kind of wish I didn't have it, because I think my daddy's the handsomest in the world.
Oh well.
But I act nothing like either of them.

There's a photo of my younger sister and me from my wedding, and I swear we're the same person with different hair. The shape of our faces and our facial expressions are identical. Quite freaky!

  • What do you get when you throw a true beauty obsessive in Europe together with a veteran beauty journalist in LA? Not much room on the bathroom shelves, that's for sure. Make-up, hair products, skincare, perfume, salons, spas, luxury hotels with toiletries and treatments that make us never want to go home - if we've left anything out, you can pry our mirrors from our cold, dead, perfectly manicured hands.
