Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder

Hairpowder While I'm giving love to Bumble and Bumble...

I'd been hearing about Bumble and Bumble's Hair Powder for years. I believe they recently re-formulated the product, and gave it new packaging to boot. I finally decided to try it after my friend (and Jack & Hill tester) Kelly told me about her experience with it. She actually ended up taking hers back to the salon for a refund, because the product was just way too messy for her, as she runs her fingers through her hair all day. Because this powder will turn your fingers and hands brown with the merest touch, that is for sure. "HI, here's $37. Please muck me up." (No, it's not cheap.)

For me, the mess is not such a big deal - I only spray the product on my roots (and shake off any excess after it has dried), and if I touch my hair, it's usually to brush it out of my face. Rest assured, though: You will need to wash your hair before you go to bed, or you'll end up with brown stains on your pillowcases. (Or just use old pillowcases.)

So it's expensive and potentially very messy. That said, I love it. I usually need to wash my hair every day if I don't want to look like a big greaseball, but this stuff lets me go one more day without assaulting my hair with shampoo and heat styling. (I find this particularly worthwhile after I've paid to have my hair professionally blow-dried and styled.) It just absorbs every jot of oil and infuses hair with amazing volume. The important things to remember are not to use too much, unless you want people to notice the powder, and to let the product dry before you try styling your hair. Oh, and put your makeup on after you've used the hair powder - that way, you can brush away any brown 'dust' or smudges before your makeup goes on.

i WISH they would bring back the old formula!!! The new one is not only messy, it's wet and sticky!!

I use something called Batiste Dry Shampoo on the days that I don't feel like washing my hair. It's been great so far. It may leave some white particles but I don't have any problems with that, it usually brush right out. It's not messy at all and you can use it no matter what color your hair is. I have dark hair and I have never seen any residue after I use it.

My stylist put the powder in my hair after I explained to her my problem with my hair becoming greasy after only half a day (specifically the bangs). I absolutely loved it and purchased a can that day. Now I am trying to figure out how much to use because I just can't get the same effect that she got. I understand that you're supposed to "shake the excess" out..but I don't see anything come out. Oh well, still- it is a product unlike any other and caters to what I need. Now I can wash my hair at night, get up in the morning and just use the powder to poof it up a bit and take away the greasies. =)

It's Batiste Dry Shampoo for me too. There's no point spending a small fortune on something that's going to stain your sheets. Batiste is sprayed on, massaged in and then brushed, I never see any residue but then again I'm blonde. Also, it costs about £2.
Another good one (which smells unbelievable) is this one from Lee Stafford, which is also around the £3 mark.

TOTALLY AGREE!
I went to CEW in New York this past year and took home a can of the Brunette B&B Hair Powder to try...
Brown hands, messed up bathroom... it was dreadful!

I had major problems with this, which I documented on my blog... (http://beautyhatchery.blogspot.com/2006/09/note-to-self-hair-powder-misadventures.html) seems you're much more adept than I am!

I used to bleach my hair and used baby powder regularly. I decided to go a bit more natural and do blonde highlights with my light brown hair. My hair color is dirty blond now, which does not work with white powder! So when I found this product I was ecstatic, despite the $40 price tag. It definately adds volume, which my fine hair needs. It is a bit messy on your hands, but that is nothing a little soap and water won't fix!

Found this entry while looking for some B&B powder for a friend for Xmas. Wanted to add that the red formula, which I own, also unfortunately turns my scalp bright red, no matter how much I brush - but I have really fine hair. My friend still wants hers :)

I too WISH they would bring the old product back. It seems as though those of you that like this new product maybe weren't familiar with the old one. It was like colored baby powder. It was really light on the hair...and it didn't make your hands dirty. I thought it was the most wonderful product I'd found...didn't have to wash my hair as often and it did give volume. But not only am I one of those people who runs their fingers through their hair, but I'm also one who's boyfriend loves soft shiny hair...he loves to play with it. Suffice to say, the "blackened" hand didn't go over well with EITHER of us. I ABSOLUTELY HATE the new product and threw mine in the trash! I'm also disappointed because now I have to go back to washing every day...which will strip away my color faster and cost me a fortune to re-do every 6 weeks. I wrote to Bumble & Bumble and they said they are sorry but people seem to like the new product....NOT ACCORDING TO WHAT I'M READING. There seems to be a lot of you out there that agree with me. SO PLEASE WRITE TO BUMBLE AND BUMBLE so they can see that there are more of us out there. Maybe they'll bring back the old one...having BOTH products in their line wouldn't hurt anyone!

I agree with you, Janett. The new spray product sucks. I got brown sprinkles on my skin, sink and tub, and ran out of the product in no time because I wasted so much in trying to spray it, and aim it at my head. And if you try applying it with your fingers, that's impossible because it will just stick to your hands! I miss the old powder. Bring it back!

I agree. I loved the old product and am very disappointed in the new formula. My bathroom turned into a brown splotchy mess and every time I touch my hair my hands and nails turn brown. The point of the powder is to get away with not washing your hair and it is very embarrassing when you are caught red, (or brown in my case) handed. My boyfriend was very curious as to why his hand was brown after running his fingers through my hard, not to mention my hair became very tangled. YUCK! None of these problems I had with the old powder!!
