Ever since I took my hand out of the crazy and stopped going to Shavata, I've got lots more money in my pocket. The flip side? I've been doing my brows myself.
The big surprise here is that I have done a pretty good job. I must say, though, that there is no fear like the fear a girl feels when she whisks the hot wax strip off the slightly fuzzy bit above her eyebrow and hopes to God she hasn't ripped half of the thing off her face.
The flip side of that? There is no relief like the relief a girl feels when she discovers that not only did she not ruin her looks utterly and completely, but that she actually did a damn fine job.
After complaining of my post-Shavata trauma to her, How to Be Beautiful author Kathleen Baird-Murray emailed me some great tips on excellent London-based eyebrow artists. Watch this space...

Which wax do you use on your eyebrows? I am always nervous about doing it myself too!

I use the Veet/Immac thin wax strips - and I cut them in half, lengthwise, for doing the tops of my brows. (I only pluck, not wax, under them, as it's too fiddly to be waxing shapes down there. The top is just a straight line.)
I still think it's worth spending the money to get this done; I've just been too busy to, er, make the time.

Actually, I just waxed the arches of my brows. No damage done, but you can't get very exact using those wax strips. For that you need a pot of hot wax and muslin strips, which I just don't go near. Too messy, and time-consuming, and risky. There's no savings in that route for me.
